System Hangs On Driver Gagp30kx.sys To Enter Safe Mode

» Out of the blue i tried to start my system. It just got stuck on windows loading screen. In safe mode it hangs on gagp30kx.sys then loads but unable to do anything. I have booted system test cd, antivirus and bart cd. They have all found no errors. When i go to BIOS it says there is no primary IDE and windows xp disk says there is no hard drive attached. I have installed the promise drivers before it starts and it still says no drive attached. Please help!

» By the Gagp30kx.sys, since its name is agp, that's related to the video card driver. You can rename the driver in safe mode, go to the system directory and rename the file and your computer is likely to start

As we know, files with .sys extension also belong to dll files, its error is closely related to other dll files, especially when caused by malware/viruses like Worm:Win32/Ainslot.A.

DLL Suite is able to fix any error caused by sys extension file, just because DLL Suite has built-in driver files, and it can replace the failure driver’s file; it can also remove the virus/malware infection at the same time.

Click DLL Suite’s Dashboard menu > Click Scan DLL Errors button > Click Fix DLL Errors button after the scan, and the blue screen of death or any other sys file related error will be repaired automatically.

  3. MICHAEL SEIBLES replied on January 16, 2013: » the gagp30kx.sys is part of your AGP video system

When Safe Mode hangs, the last thing you see on the screen is usually not the problem - it is what comes after it and you can't see that, but you can figure it out.

When your system hangs, how long do you before you give up on it? Is there any HDD activity? Sometimes XP will give up on the affliction and move on and that could take some several minutes, so give it a couple minutes and see what happens. If the HDD light is flashing, it is doing something.

Since what comes after gagp30kx.sys may be additional AGP stuff, one would be inclined to ask if you have done any video system updates lately (either on purpose or from some automatic update), or any other kind of updates.

Then you should see how things look when from the Safe Mode options, you choose the troubleshooting 101 option: Last Known Good Configuration

Last Known Good Configuration is the configuration XP saved the last time Windows booted successfully and choosing that option may allow you to boot long enough to undo (roll back) whatever got your system afflicted in the first place. That is what the option is for - when some update makes your system no boot any more.

If the system boots with Last Known Good Configuration, uninstall (roll back) the afflicted software or driver update using Add/Remove Programs or Device Manager and get the correct software/drivers for your system.

I have got a variety of disk checkers on a boot disk. i am currently running winternals disk commander.

Most of the checker programs have been able to read the disk and say there are no problems except they dont know the name of the disk. It is just shown as unknown.
